Well yes, there was some of that, but it wasn't all guys watching. There were plenty of girls around too, and that changes the dynamic. I guess the mark didn't want to be seen as the "bad guy" in front of the girls who were watching, I don't know. The psychology of the situation was fascinating, that's for sure.
