As the female progresses towards the end of her child baring years, her libido increases, offering more opportunity to procreate while her body is still able. Of course, we humans have the option of choosing not to procreate, but the left over chemistry that drives it still pushes the process.
Outside of the scientific mumbo-jumbo, I'm just glad my wife has it. Our sex life has improved with age.

Actually it is due to a reduction in estrogen. Their testosterone to estrogen ratio changes thus increasing drive.
