The search availability might be something that could be fixed with more money -- a hosting solution with more firepower -- but that would be an ongoing cost that the admins of the site shouldn't have to be "on the hook" for if donations don't keep pace with it.

As for the 502s and 504s, I suspect that's something different this time. Last time the site was being hit hard by AI chatbot scrapers and we were able to block the bulk of them. This time, it sort of seems like the site might just need some software updating and general maintenance. I don't have much information, but I'm aware that there's a temporary solution they've been using periodically - makes it better for a few hours, perhaps.

I'm happy to volunteer if the admins want me. Between afagehi7 and I, we ought to be able to sort it out if we're given suitable access to the "back end" parts.

I've learned that when I get a 502 a few reclicks usually gets me where I want to go here

Hi Admins,

I have spent ~20yrs dealing with hosting infrastructure for web sites as well as being a developer (although C# and not PHP). If you want some help with the hosting side of things then I can recommend looking at Cloudflare (I can help with the setup) to take over as a proxy. Enabling it as a proxy means content like images will only be generated once and then served from Cloudflare which will reduce load on the server signifcantly. It can also help with DDoS, block web scrapers, etc.

It can also be used to speed up other static content (CSS & JS) reducing load even further. Cost is $0 and all it takes is some DNS changes to work, easily revertable if it doesn't work or you want to back out at any point.

It's the quickest fix for no cost that will provide immediate benefits without requiring site maintenace or time invested in development.

If there is some upgrade or investment needed, then please let us know. I’m sure many of us would chip in. The current situation isn’t good and they have been ongoing for quite some time now. Even with very few of us online, the delays, 502 gateway issue, high load issues, etc really undermine the experience. What can we do to help?

This morning had 11 bad gateways while navigating. Frustrating.

Also, at home on my computer I am signed in. On my phone it seems to ask for the person after 3 or 4 times on it. Odd.

Has the offer of putting the site behind Cloudflare been investigated? And the other offers of help, have they been persued?

I don't think the hosting provider is the problem.

It does seem like things are in a downward spiral, and that engagement on the site is way down. Like everybody is getting tired of fighting it, until things improve.

It cannot come as a surprise that site engagement is down when users have to repeat a command 5-6 times before it gets processed, and then when it does, it takes ages. This problem has been persistent and sometimes makes navigation virtually impossible.
It is choking the life out of OHW. Other sites work normally, why can't they fix it?

Unfortunately this site is seemingly fading away with the 502 issue. Web traffic obviously has to be way down.

It has taken me 15 minutes to log on and post this because of the constant 502 Bad Gateway messages... Are the admins still here?

I'm ignorant to coming up with solutions, but it seems that brisfun1980,leggysman, and Bogdan have some experience and more importantly are willing to help. I'm sure there are others but as I can only see Page 3 in this post, (due to bad gateway issues ), I'm sure of there being others.
For us who can't help on the admin side, I'm sure at least some are willing to chip in.
This site is very close to lot of us interested in the lifestyle, and it would be a shame to see it disappear.
It seems to me that the current administration have their heart in the right place, but I can imagine can't see the wood for the trees, due to such a heavy backlog from the site, let alone their own lives.
The lifestyle is only getting more popular. And everyone needs a helping hand on occasion.
