It depends how serious the betrayal of trust was. My wife was on her way to having a full blown affair with someone she met online, but never went to meet him in real life. I changed the situation by turning it into a shared "naughty hotwife" fantasy with my wife, and basically saved my marriage.

There's too many factors that play into that idea for us to give you a good answer. Can it lead to that? Sure. It's also likely to lead to divorce. For most people into hotwifing, trust is an absolute must. If your wife is cheating on you, you don't have trust.
