Shifting Paradigm? Filling Magazine Space?

My wife just sent me an email that she got from her sister. The sister got it from her fiancé. It was an article about upward trend of married women who initiate open marriages and married women who want open marriages. The article appeared scientific and intellectual, yet after reflecting on it after reading it, there was nothing of scientific or intellectual value in it. The most important question of why more women are venturing beyond their marriages for sexual satisfaction was not addressed or answered. A precise definition of an open marriage was excluded. We know married couples who live under the same roof yet they avoid each other. They can't afford divorce. It's probable that they're seeing other people. But that is not the same as a happily married couple who mutually decided to expand their sexuality.

There are probably too many reasons for nontraditional sexual practices to quantify and categorize. Women who seek extramarital sexual experiences because their husband cannot perform due to medical reasons (Lady Chatterly's Lover) would be in a distinct category from sexually enlightened and hyper-sexual wives. In what category would swingers be assigned?

The point is almost all articles about myriad sexual practices seem to be more assumptions and inferences than factual.

What metric do you guys use to determine validity of sexual practices articles? Are they only entertainment?

TT - Despite the veneer of social norms, current and historic, I would willingly bet way more has and goes on than anyone has any idea about and never really will.

Hi Long Lurker 34,

Years ago, my wife assured me that either many or more, I can't remember which, wives would have sex with men outside of their marriages if their husbands were supportive.

My wife and I know that routine sex decreases sexual frequency and desire. Couples have to be willing to venture beyond their comfort zones to keep sex exciting and fun.
