Carston Mather’s Erotic Book Reviews Thread
Hello all! After being a long time reader of erotic stores online (mainly Literotica), I decided to start reading more long form literature with hotwife themes. I’ve read some crap and I’ve read some absolutely amazing books. To hopefully help all of you out, I’ve started this thread to post my reviews and recommendations. I happen to know at least a couple of my favorite authors lurk this forum ;-) so I hope they also enjoy my reviews. Well - at least the positive ones!
Okay, let’s get started!
Edit - Hey so a bit about me for those who might care. Typical open marriage that started with swinging 6 years ago and then transitioned to an open marriage with my wife taking a regular lover and me occasionally taking a dom/bull role in other couples' marriages. I've been "that guy" and I've also been "the other guy". I don't post much about my marriage here as my wife would behead me. But I am good friends with one of the sexiest couples on this site and that husband and I have chatted back and forth about some of the erotic hotwife fiction out there. So I decided to start posting reviews!
Edit 2 Please comment, share, agree, disagree, and post your own reviews!

Re: Carston Mather’s Erotic Book Reviews Thread
Rule Breaker by Phoebe Alexander - 5/5
Alexander usually writes more conventional romance novels and this is one of her very few ménage romance books as they are sometimes called. Expect a lot more B plot outside of the hotwife plot with fleshed out characters, non-sex related conflict, and writing that isn’t just filler between the chapters with sex. But let me tell ya, there’s plenty of sex and it’s fantastic. For me, hot sex in a book requires high emotional stakes and this one has it.
Athena, the book’s wife, brings us along on a journey where her anxiousness, hesitation, and release of control make the hot, dirty writing in this book all that hotter and dirtier. Not every reader will have the patience to follow along on everything going on outside the hotwifing, but for those who do, the payoff is well worth it. I also loved that Athena is a quite curvy wife, and not a twiggy CrossFit addict type that I often run into in this genre. (There's nothing wrong with the latter type character - I just personally have a thing for hourglass ladies.)
As close as I've ever read to a full on "romance" hotwife book. Well recommended 5/5.

Holly Hold on Tight, Parts One and Two by Parker Pascal. - 2/5
Well I read them both. Unfortunately the first one moves too slow from an erotic standpoint and the second one takes eroticism to a level that more or less turns Holly (the book’s wife) into a blow up sex doll. The husband is… weird. And I say this from the perspective of a reviewer who’s fucked his wife’s pussy with another man’s cum in it (ah good memories). My main problem with this series is Holly’s on/off switch transformation from reluctant prude to unabashed cock craving sex machine. The first book is all tension with little payoff and the second book has no tension at all aside from the husband’s ability to… not let himself be happy? I don’t know. Not recommended unless you're absolutely dying for a hotwife book with a ganbang in it. 2/5.

Annie’s Affair by Kenny Wright - 5/5
This book is a mindfuck. I loved it and I absolutely didn’t expect to. Honestly my interest in reading about a full blown affair by a cheating wife was quite low. What reader wants to be sad and horny at the same time, am I right? Put aside your reluctance. For the voyeurs out there, this book is a buffet. For the voyeurs out there that have ever fantasized about a more illicit, risky, uninvited voyeurism, this book is a must read. While told from the husband’s viewpoint, the book uses a clever mechanism to bring the wife’s point of view in as well - written by a different author interestingly, Kristan McCurran. And her writing fleshes out this book in the best way. This is NOT a hotwife book. It has no hotwife plot and has no hotwife themes. The wife cheats and the husband is thoroughly cuckolded with exquisitely written sex scenes. One thing I loved about this book is the unexpected ending. How to give a cheating wife book an emotionally satisfying finish? Kenny Wright finds a way. Highly recommended, 5/5.
NOTE: this isn't Kenny Wright's usual fare. As he's a favorite author of mine, I decided to give it a try. I'll be posting reviews of some of his other books with much more conventional hotwife themes.

Filthy Vows and Twisted Marriage by Alessandre Torre - 5/5 and 4/5
Elle, the wife and main character in this series that starts with Filthy Vows, still stands as one of my favorite erotica characters and she really makes the first book a great read. She’s one of the more relatable and realistically written characters in the hotwife genre. And speaking of characters, I especially enjoyed the complete lack of an alpha/dominant/ass-hole/uber-fit/bro character for the wife to “lose control with”. I confess I'm getting a bit burned out on that archetype/formula.
As Torre writes romance novels in many genres, it’s not surprising that there’s more b-plot than average. So expect to read a lot about the lives of the two main characters outside of just their hotwife journey. I appreciated this and felt it made them tangible - by the time the writing gets fantastically down and dirty, the reader knows these characters. And knowing the character brings an emotional weight to a very hot ending. Also, this book is a slow burn from an erotic writing standpoint. The patience pays off though as the final chapters of this book can barely keep from spontaneously combusting. You will absolutely need to fuck or masturbate after reading them.
I wish I could say I like the sequel, “Twisted Marriage” just as much. Unfortunately, the second book completely lacks the emotional stakes of the first one that made it so hot. Instead it’s just a series of kinky vignettes that really don’t take the characters into any new places sexually or emotionally. If you fell in love with the characters of the first book, then by all means read the second. I highly recommend the first one with a 5/5, but I can only cautiously recommend the second with a 4/5.

Two Sides of Terri by Ben Boswell - 4/5
I'll go ahead and make this the review for the entire series, as they are one unified story.
The Terri series dives deep into a phycological study of a wonderfully slutty wife and her conflicted husband, with the complex tension this creates in their marriage. There are times when the reader feels like a therapist watching a husband and wife talk it out in couple's counseling. The book focuses more on the very tormented, indecisive husband. However we do get insights into Terri herself as well and what motivates her drives and desires. One thing interesting about her character is that she's a departure from the usual housewife archetype in this genre. She's not the vanilla 'wife next door' who slowly lets go and embraces a new, freer, sex-loving lifestyle. Oh no. She's a sex and danger craving woman from the starting block who's learned the self control to either keep it in check or unleash when she so chooses. The books get dark - but Boswell keeps it on the knife's edge from getting too dark.
Putting the genre of this trilogy aside for a second, it has to be said that Boswell is a really good novelist and writer. His writing sets the scenes very well, putting you right in the middle of all the sights, sounds, and smells. Also, I get the sense he's writing for himself and not simply indulging us with what we think we want to read. I'm keen to see what his other books contain.
Okay, truthfully, not my all-time favorite erotic hotwife series of all time, mostly because the husband just got too eye-rolling for me. But I did find the story and the writing compelling. This book (series) is a thinker and I appreciated that. I will read more of Boswell's books, as this was my introduction to the author. I recommend the series - but I also recommend this not being the first books one reads in this genre. Maybe pick something a bit less high octane first. 4/5.

Something Forbidden and Nothing Forbidden by Kenny Wright 5/5 and 5/5
If any of you are looking at this thread for the first time and looking for where to start in the hotwife genre, this series is an excellent place to begin. I kinda wish this review had been my first post in this thread for that very reason.
I adore Katie and Max, the wife and husband in this series. I feel like they are having fun on the journey they take together in this series. Yeah, they each make some mistakes, but the crazy amount of love and affection these two have for each other is the hero of this story. I would threesome with these two in a heartbeat. The husband has plenty of self-confidence, which kept me from getting annoyed with him.
Without spoiling too much, there are actual villains in this story as well as a surprising amount of B-plot for a hotwife genre writer. And the B-plot is woven in pretty well.
Nothing Forbidden (the sequel in this series) gives us a lot more of the wife’s perspective, which I think you’ll enjoy. She brings enough emotional stakes to her sexual encounters to make them super hot. She’s a bit unsure, but horny as fuck. I actually like the second book more than the first, which is rare for me with hotwife sequels. Less B-plot and more fucking in the second one...hmmm.
I suppose one criticism of the book is the use of more than one common hotwife novel trope. But that’s good here - if this is your first read in the genre, you won’t know that and enjoy all of them. Kenny Wright has less conventional books (see my earlier review of Annie’s Affair above) for his readers if this one feels too close to a formula for you. This is a hotwife book with a hotwife plot (okay yeah, there’s some swinging thrown in, but that’s not the main theme).
Fantastic characters and enough tension and conflict to make the sex hot, hard and wet. You will definitely cum more than once. Well recommended: 5/5
Lookout for my upcoming review of Parallel Lines, also by Kenny Wright written with Ben Boswell!

Re: Carston Mather’s Erotic Book Reviews Thread
Possessing Princess by Ben Boswell 2/5
I'm compelled to say that if this was on Literotica as a series of story chapters, I'd give this a 5/5 on Literotica. But this is a long form cuckold novel and that's not the same thing. The characters are flat, the emotional stakes are low, and the sex is mechanical. I will say that Boswell's use of the wife's own fictional writing was a unique and interesting mechanism. But as much as I enjoyed that aspect, its value is lost to the rest of this book.
If you're looking for a good cuckold novel that's similar, read Annie's Affair (my review is above) instead. If you're looking for something by Boswell, read Two Sides of Terry, which is much, much better writing from him. Not recommended so 2/5.
Sorry Ben - I know you lurk this forum. I will read and review your other works.

Re: Carston Mather’s Erotic Book Reviews Thread
Carston,
You should read Kenny Wright's "Training to Love It" series. Characters from the "...Forbidden" series are there and with one exception in essentially cameo roles. Mistakes and all, "Training to Love It" 1, 2, and 3 are for me, the ultimate hotwife series. It is one of a couple series, that I would have really liked to be continued. In fact, in our reviews in Kenny Wright's "Bull" series (where Calahans is included), we made it known that characters (Erin and Tom) from "Training to Love It" should make cameos. The series is that good.
One of the other series that I thought (me alone, not my wife) should continue was KT Morrison's "Happy Endings". The epilogue in that series is plainly evil from a "dangling the carrot" perspective.
I do disagree with you regarding "Holly Hold On Tight". From a different perspective, it was not about sex or the gangbang at the end, it was about Holly getting her husband to do what he wanted to do. Parker Pascal is a brilliant author, but is horribly slow producing sequels: "The Cuckold Who Came in from the Cold" part one could easily be a stand alone spy novel, however Part 2 has been over two years in coming--he knows, too.

Yes! I've read the whole Training series and Erin is one of my favorite characters. I've told Kenny Wright that I'd love a collection of short stories that tell some of the events in 'Training' from her perspective. I'm holding off on a review as I don't want to load up too much on my favorite author.DavidnDaria wrote: ↑Sat Oct 03, 2020 1:35 pmYou should read Kenny Wright's "Training to Love It" series. Yeah, that's a smart take and one I agree with. I suppose I stumbled on me finding the husband so unsympathetic. I simply didn't care about him or his marriage. And Holly's transformation was just too jarring and not well enough explored for me.DavidnDaria wrote: ↑Sat Oct 03, 2020 1:35 pmI do disagree with you regarding "Holly Hold On Tight". Re: Carston Mather’s Erotic Book Reviews Thread
Mistaken Identity by Chloe Tzang - 4/5
Rosetree recommended I read and review this. So here we are!
It's impossible not to give this book at least 4 starts given that I spend 15 of the last 23 chapters of this book with my cock hard as a rock. I literally had to take breaks from reading it just so give my poor blood vessels a break. Chloe Tzang manages to take even the most straightforward sex act and find a way to write 10 pages about it. Ten really hot, dirty, sexy pages. And it just keeps going like that chapter after chapter after chapter. If you've ever thought to yourself, gee I wish one of these authors would just fill the book with almost nothing but erotic, carnal, wonderfully nasty sex... you should read Mistaken Identity.
I'm not giving it 5 stars though. The good girl turned dirty girl plot is thin here. The boyfriend character (not husband in this case) has the depth of a placemat. The main character (the girlfriend in this case) takes a journey that stretches the imagination (and a couple of other things as well). It's only her constant internal dialogue she shares with us that gives us some tension to frame around the firehose of sex. And the thoughts in her head do give us some insight into her reasoning and turmoil.
Not really a hotwife novel and not a cuckold novel... closer to a 'woman pretending to be a hooker' novel. Which I apparently like! Recommended for Tzang's incredibly descriptive erotic writing.
NOTE: I was excited to read a book set in Shanghai as I've spent a fair amount of time in that city for business trips. I was hoping for the city to take a larger role in the book, especially the food (come on... no hot pot? no blood cake?). On a technical note, prostitutes in Shanghai are almost never Chinese, instead they are usually Korean or Thai. Please don't ask me how I know this.

Very well done, Carston. You have bracketed the essence of this little morsel of erotica done to excess perfectly. Rosetree

Re: Carston Mather’s Erotic Book Reviews Thread
Another here who is enjoying your reviews though surprisingly atm I not read anything you reviewed and I read hundreds of hotwife books over the years.
For me I tend to have a couple of rules before I purchase a book. The first is it has to be over 130 pages (if pages given) or say 50,000 words. So yes a long book which hopefully means any story has depth. I also hope the book has a good start, middle and end. I find many erotic authors are not very good at ending books. Often they left open ended and/or stop abruptly.
The second is I try not to purchase a story series that anything more than 3 book long series unless it a separate story contained within each book. The reason is that, in my opinion, the first 3 books tend to be the best in most story arc's. Anything after that I feel can drift away both in story line and story genera. Plus there is also the cost to take into account, the price can run away.
As for paid authors, I do not have a favourite but I do think Max Sebastian is probably the most consistent at producing good books while Amica Butler is perhaps the most improved writer. Just my current opinions, they will probably keep changing with time.
I am another who will look at your reviews the next time I purchase a book and maybe pick one from the list. Thank you for taking the time to review.

Your post is quite timely as I'm in the middle of tackling the 'Maggie' series from KT Morrison. IT"S SEVEN BOOKS. Good so far though, I'm enjoying the author's writing.
Max Sebastian is on my radar and I will add Amica Butler as well. Thank you!
I suspect many people like me have burned out on Literotica and are seeking more depth. Also, I've more or less given up on Internet hotwife porn at this point. Outside of the occasional pic of wives getting ready for dates (which I LOVE), I don't bother. Long form hotwife books have really turned into my go to for stimulating material on the subject. Especially since with Covid, no one is fucking my wife and I'm not fucking anyone else's wife. Although I did have a scorching hot sexting session with one of my longtime FWBs the other night, so that was a nice treat.

Oddly enough, KT's "Maggie" Series was the first erotic book set my wife and I had ever read. That started in December of 2017. Stranger still, because of the events in the "Maggie" series, I couldn't finish the book for a long time--my wife finished it right away.
Once you're done with Maggie, you might want to check out more of KT's library of work. The Keely series picks up where the Maggie series left off, but it remains unfinished. Of all of KT's work, our/my favorites are: Cherry Blossoms (KT's best work, we believe), and Happy Endings. If you want some realtime (or thereabouts) KT, check out KT's Patreon.

Agree - the Maggie series is fantastic. I mentioned Cherry Blossoms in my first post above. That was the first of KT's books I read. He is a first rate author.

Re: Carston Mather’s Erotic Book Reviews Thread
I have read both K T Morrison's Maggie series and her Cherry Blossoms book and my thoughts (from what I remember) on both of these are.....
For me the Maggie series of books perfectly illustrates what I said above about long series stories. The first two or three books are in my opinion her best work but the story line starts to fade once they move off campus and new characters are introduced. For me the last few books were not her best. One of the main faults I felt is I started not enjoying the story line. It felt a different story from the one I started with and in the end I found it hard to finish. The enjoyment had gone. Having said all that the writing standard remained excellent through out.
Cherry Blossoms is a good book through out but in my humble opinion never quite reaches the same height as the first few Maggie series books.
