To compare our numbers with China, from 500 cases after eighteen days their total was 40,000. At the current rate of infection, in two weeks the total of US cases will exceed 2,000,000 which equates to 320,000 needed hospital beds. (Between 15 & 18 percent of infected people need hospitalization.) When beds are filled people will die. This is why slowing the spread by a small percentage will make a huge difference in the total number of deaths. It's math and we can do something about it by social distancing. It's not about GETTING the virus, it's about not giving it to someone else.

No argument here with that. That's pretty much my opinion, but I can't always determine what's in another's mind and whatever is in his brain is better hidden than most. That’s been ongoing among those three for a while now and if those conversations weren’t so elaborate, I would have included some in our narratives here.

She, Beau and Jack have been talking about the guys’ futures for months. Both often say whenever they get married, they want someone like her. Among other things, she told them a minority of married women will agree to her lifestyle and it’s best to at least talk it over with their women before they marry. Over time, she has given them advice on how to find the right partners and ways to open their conversations. Jack told my wife the last time they were together that he’s also learning a lot about life from Jean. She has learned a lot for a 28-year-old. She’s a complicated person. Jean had been a JROTC student in high school and served time as a Navy corpsman assigned to Marines between her high school days and entering pharmacy school. Although she was Navy, fellow Marines called her “Doc” and considered her another Marine. She is still in Reserves. Jack recently mentioned to her his concerns about the possibility of coronavirus ever coming to our area. As best as Gigi recalls of what she was told of the conversation, Jean told him, “You need a change of attitude. It’s a beautiful world if you look around. Learn to live for the day and not worry about tomorrow. Everybody dies. For a corpsman, dying is part of the business. I’ll be a pharmacist when I graduate and, as with other medical personnel, dangers also abound for many in that field. If it happens, it happens, and you can work with whatever cards you’re dealt.” Jean is a good poker player, so that last comment is probably common for her.

Jack told Gigi that she and Jean have given him the best advice of his life.

With their school responsibilities and Beau’s part-time position with the bank, neither of her guys feel they have the time for serious relationships at this time. Gigi suspects Beau is more likely to marry first and thinks Jack won’t be getting serious about anyone for years to come. But neither of us assume certainty in our expectations; for all we really know, both might marry some girls the day they graduate. Gigi just hopes that each has that premarital "conversation" first with their women.
