Here's an interesting dilemma, given that Michael is based on Goyse himself, then there are two ways our favourite Aussie author might take it imo.

One the obvious way showing Michael understanding and complaisant to all Candy's wishes, and the four of them are married in some sort of multi-person marriage - currently four, but with Candy who knows maybe that marriage could accommodate up to 20 people one day

Michael eventually says enough is enough and finally sees what everyone else does

I think the second scenario too much out of character and incredibly unlikely tbh.

Yeah, I agree with your thinking re the multi-person marriage. Michael is just too cool and accepting for anything else. Damn-it! Am hoping for some emotion and a blow up at least!
That current X saga is interesting the way Allie is in the driving seat! She’s another , but not a like Candy.

It was an inside look at Paul Bernardo and Karla Homolka's relationship, what led the image-obsessed couple to commit cruel and disturbing crimes, and the result of a controversial and transformative trial.

I know Karla, the Barbie lookalike killed her younger sister and helped murder two other captive sex slaves they captured and imprisoned in their home, but she somehow reminded me of what I imagined a blonde Candy might look like, and envisaged Candy possibly evil enough to do likewise too.

In the interests of being entirely fair I'll have to admit I absolutely love Candy as a character, and want her to carry on being very bad indeed, even worse if possible. So might be a little biased in painting her character a little blacker than it really is.

“WE NEED TO TALK!” Candy threw her bag down on the table and looked Michael straight in the eye.

“Okay,” Michael said quietly, “I’ll go get Jill then.”

“Leave Jill out of this, this is between you and me.”

“No,” Michael told her, shaking his head and putting his hand up as a policeman might to stop traffic, “Jill doesn’t get left out when it suits you. She is part of this family so she sits in on discussions no matter if they involve her or not. She has a right to know what happens between you and me.”

Jill had been listening since she heard the door slam as Candy arrived home. She walked out and put her arms around Candy hoping to take away some of her anger. “What’s up, honey? Are you having a bad day?”

“Bad day, I’m having a fucking bad year!”

Jill giggled, “So you want to let off a bit of steam by coming over to share the stress around, do you?”

“Jilly, please, this is serious. Michael is planning to hang my washing out to dry in the public domain by starting a class action against Tod.”

“Well, honey if you do your washing, as you call it out in the public arena then people will know anyway so is that Michael’s fault.”

“Explain yourself,” she snapped back?

“Everyone knows, Candy. People are not blind. People know about your movie making adventure with Tod. The people who care about you don’t talk about it but those who don’t care spread the news on the community grapevine. Everyone knows about you going down to live with Tod at the movie studio. Everyone who matters knows that you and he made videos together. Half of the town probably owns the series by now, and if they don’t they would probably have their copy on order. The half that don’t are the people who love you and care about you. All Michel is doing is trying to protect you the only way he knows how. You should be thanking him not yelling at him.”

“He’s starting a class action against Tod.”

“He’s trying, yes that is true but he doesn’t know it yet but he and Chick will be standing alone if the class action ever gets off the ground at all.”

“What do you mean? Why would they be alone? I’m not the only one.”

“You just said it, didn’t you? You don’t want your dirty washing hung out in the public domain. Those other women are not going to come forward. Unlike you, few people know about them so they are going to say nothing and if someone asks they will deny it. Can't you imagine it, 'that is just someone who looks like me?' Even Chick is having second thoughts so Michael is alone in defending the woman he loves. He’s the only one with the gumption to do anything about it. You should be thanking him for caring enough to defend you instead of attacking him.”

Candy was lost for words. She looked across at Michael who simply stood there with a blank expression as if he had just been shocked. She looked back at Jill. “So you think the class-action won’t work then?”

“It won’t even get started if you tell Michael not to proceed because the only reason why Chick is involved is that he thought that Michael needed his support. He thinks a lot of Michael because Michael respects him. Not many do these days since they found out that his wife has made a blue movie with Tod.”

“So, if Chick pulls out then the class action doesn’t proceed?” Candy had missed Jill's statement about respect which was actually aimed directly at her but it would occur to her at a later time.

“Nope but Michael will continue because he wants to do whatever he can to protect you. If you want it to stop then you have to convince Michael, no one else. But I’ll tell you now if you keep yelling at him all you’ll achieve is to piss him off.”

Finally, something hit home with Candy as her anger started to dissipate. “Michael?”

“Yes, Candy. Was there something you wanted to say?”

“I’m sorry I got angry with you.”

“Okay. We all get angry at times especially when we don’t understand. Was there something else?”

“Drop the class action, please.”

“Why?”

“A class action won’t succeed.”

“Now, that is interesting. Why wouldn’t it succeed?”

“I agreed to let him video me.”

“He would have to prove that.”

“He has me agreeing on video.”

“What if that video was no longer available to him?”

“It still wouldn’t change anything because the court would ask me.”

“So you’re telling me that you wouldn’t lie and you wouldn’t refuse to answer. Is that it?”

“Would you expect me to?”

“No, I guess not.”

“Michael, I’m sorry. I got carried away in the excitement and adventure of it all. I should not have done it. If I could change it now, I would.”

“Okay, what is done is done. I’ll shut down the class action. Now is there anything else?”

“Yes, there is but I have a couple of issues to sort out before I ask a favour of you.”

“Of me and Jill, you mean?”

Candy looked across at Jill. “Yes, of you and Jilly.”

“The answer is yes.” Michael in turn looked across at Jill who smiled and nodded her agreement.

“Sorry, the answer to what is yes?”

“The answer to Jeff moving in with us is yes once you sort it out with him. I can’t say that I’m overly happy with it personally because you’ve only known him a week or two but then if you think you love him then who am I to complain. But something you need to remember is……… ”

Candy smiled and cut him off mid-sentence, “He stays away from Jilly, yes, I get it.”

Michael laughed, “yes, that too but I was going to say that he has to pay his way. The other question I had is how is he coping with driving three hours to work and back every day?”

“He’s talking to Helen about getting work closer to here. She is thinking of closing down the studio for a while and perhaps hiring it out to other groups to make movies. You know, there are bands and community stage groups looking for access to commercial video studios all the time.”

“Okay, so Jeff could be working locally soon.”

“Yes, she needs someone who knows the trade to manage one of the shops for her. He thinks she will jump at the opportunity to use him in that role.”

“He knows how to manage a shop?”

“Yes, his parents owned their own shops and he worked for them as a teenager so he learned quite a bit about it. He thinks he’ll handle it alright.”

“Was there anything else?”

“Jeff is spending the night down at the studio. The travelling is catching up to him as you suggested.”

“Candy, you don’t need an invite to join me and Jill for the night. You’re my wife and Jill is your lover. We love you just as much as we ever have. Nothing has changed for us.”

“I’ve been away so often recently. It just feels as if I’m interfering, coming between you and Jill. That’s all.”

Michael looked across at Jill who saw that look as him asking for her to help answer for him. “Candy, as Michael has said, nothing has changed for us. We have drawn closer together but as far as our feelings for you, both of us still love you and want to be with you. If you want to spend the night here there is no reason for you to have to ask. We’d both love it.”

Candy laughed, “Like Kentucky fried chicken!”

Jill joined in with the laughter as Michael wondered what was going on. Jill saw his confused look so told him, “Yes, like KFC, A leg in one hand, a breast in the other and that finger-licking goodness.”

Well the tension and drama has been building since chapter 7 when Michael asked Candy if she intended seeing Tod again and she replied “Tod and I and Teddy have been spending a few hours together from time to time over recent weeks.” Since then the drama's built up and up as Candy has lied, deceived and manipulated Michael to get all that she wants. It reached a pinnacle with Candy insisting she never knew she was making porn, actively deceiving Michael and Jill about her trip to the movie studio, spending all her time since coming home with Jeff and going behind their backs to make arrangements to live with Jeff as a married couple.

All in all, it’s been a great ride of some 32 chapters that have built up tension, set up cliff hangers, and kept us all on the edges of our seats as we wonder where it will all go and how it will end.

“WE NEED TO TALK!” demands Candy, storming into the house, setting up for a dramatic confrontation to have it all out.

Then with an “Okay. We all get angry at times especially when we don’t understand,” and “Okay, what is done is done,” Michael calmly and skillfully smooths it all over, all is forgiven, and they can get on with whatever is coming next.

Surprisingly Michael agrees to let Jeff move in before Candy even asks. Michael's had little contact with Jeff, barely knows him at all and he's invited Jeff into their home to be an equal partner and decision maker in their lives knowing that Jeff :
• Wants to take Candy away from him permanently (she hasn’t slept with Michael since Jeff arrived on the scene)
• Has repeatedly lied to Michael and actively worked to deceive him
• Was Tod’s chief movie maker, happily helping to make and sell porn that exploited dozens of unsuspecting women without their consent.
• Has set up an apartment where he wants to live with Candy as a married couple without anything being mentioned to Michael or Jill.

Last chapter Michal said to Jill. “At least I think we should wait to see what Candy’s proposal is and also how she goes about it. We can each have a view but sometimes waiting could change things so I propose that we wait until we have to make a decision. After all, something could happen before then that makes casting a vote unnecessary.” Now he’s agreed to let Jeff live with them without waiting to hear what Candy’s proposal is, even though he knows Candy and Jeff want far more than they've ever revealed to him. Nor did Michael ask what the couple of issues are that Candy wanted to sort out before asking him her favor.

A recipe for disaster perhaps?
