It was fairly common to go from Chermside at lunchtime Saturday either to Caloundra or to Surfers Paradise and not return until late Sunday evening.
Candy would love it and with a little education, I think Jill may as well. It's great to have grandparents to babysit at a moment's notice, isn't it?

Hhmm, yes, an interesting thought indeed. What would Candy do for up to 7 hours on a plane? And then there is the stopover in Eaglefarm........ my old stomping ground as a very irrational and irresponsible teenager....... interesting thoughts..... many memories come back...... some that I'd rather not speak of......

The following week, Leslie called Michael once more early in the morning. Teddy had gone to spend the night with his grandparents which meant there was the opportunity for Michael to sleep in a little. He was lying in bed with Candy on one shoulder and Jill on the other. Jeff had been asked to go down to the movie centre by Leslie to run some people through the setup of the cameras so he had left the previous afternoon to be on-site early in the morning. Work was slow for Michael so he had once more had a couple of days off.
“Hi Michael, it’s Leslie here. Sorry to call you so early but as you would know I have to meet clients this morning.”
“No problems, Leslie. Is it good news or bad?”
“It’s all good. Tod argued about the issue with Candy and Mary but he eventually came to heel after I told him he would have to fight it out in court.”
“That’s good. It solves a lot of problems for everybody. Nobody wants to ruin him completely and a court case would if they allocated more than a million to all of the women and their families.”
“Yes, his lawyer told him that was the likely outcome even if what he said is true. They told him that the evidence that he had cut the tapes to make it look different to what actually happened would most likely mean he wouldn’t be believed no matter what the truth was. I spoke to Jeff during the week and he confirmed that Tod had instructed him to manipulate the tapes and he was willing to swear to it in court if necessary. I told Jeff he should have talked to me about it.”
“You must understand that Jeff couldn’t talk to you for two reasons. He would end up out of a job if you didn’t believe him. You were also very ill and he didn’t want to stress you anyway. He was protecting you as much as himself.”
“Okay, well, that’s exactly what he told me but I was disappointed that he didn’t trust me. You do know that he and Candy are having it off together, don’t you?”
“Candy doesn’t cheat on me,” Michael snapped back at her.
“So you’re party to their affair.”
“Yes, I’m aware of it and I don’t have objections but we would rather not advertise that.”
“So you must have known that my husband was cheating on me with your wife?”
“I knew they were having sex together, yes but I had no way of knowing if Tod had a similar arrangement with you or not.”
“You could have asked me.”
“Your arrangements with your husband are a private matter so I didn’t think I had the right to raise it with you. Either way, until I met you I didn’t even know if your relationship with your husband was intact. I knew that he had affairs with multiple women so why would I be concerned about another.”
“Okay. I can see that. When will you be available to sign up an agreement to finalize this fucking mess that my ex-husband has left us with?”
“I can contact the other women today and meet tomorrow if you’re available.”
“Okay, meet me for lunch at the esplanade restaurant and we can sign up the agreement and exchange the necessary items.”
“Alright. How does eleven-thirty sound? That way we can get some of the business out of the way before lunch. I’ll book a room for us so we don’t get disturbed.”
“Once the formalities are complete Tod wants to come back into the country. You know that we have split up, don’t you?”
“I thought you may have but I was not sure. Besides, that was between you and Tod so I felt I shouldn’t ask.”
“Yes, we have. There is one more thing, Michael. I would like you to come to work for me as a manager overseeing my businesses. I will pay you your present income plus an additional thirty per cent.”
“You hardly know me. Why would you offer me work?”
“I have checked out your background. You’re reliable and honest. You could have set out to destroy Tod but you didn’t. You punished him for what he did to those women and to me. Don’t forget that everything he did he did to me as well as those women but you approached it such that we all win, even Tod wins believe it or not.”
“Why do you think that Tod has had a win?”
“You could have insisted on taking it all and leaving him weighed down by debt. You knew that but you didn’t do it. Compared to what you could have done to him he is a winner. You have been firm but fair. That is the type of general manager I need for my businesses.”
“Okay, well, we can talk about it after our meeting over lunch.”
“Alright, I’ll see you at eleven-thirty tomorrow then.”
….
“What are you up to, Michael?”
“You heard what Leslie said, Candy. Tod has decided to make an offer to the families of his victims for the damage he has done by making videos without the women’s permission and selling the videos to the public. His ex-wife is handling the deal for him.”
“And what was that about me?”
“He believed there was no damage done to you or your family so he didn’t want to pay up. After some discussion, he decided that you and your family should be included.”
“I thought I told you to forget about me where that class action is concerned.”
“I did exactly as you suggested but he made contact with me through his ex-wife.”
“Ex-wife, what do you mean ex-wife?”
“She cut him out of her life while you were with him.”
“Shit. I didn’t expect that to happen.”

“I guess. Anyhow, I can’t change any of that now. Obviously, you had some way to convince him to include me. How much is the payout?”

“Wow, split between twenty-five women that will be twenty thousand each.”
“Twenty-five women, why do you say that?”
“Tod told me he had made videos with twenty-five of his lovers.”
“Hhmm, well do you know who they are, names and things?”
“I thought you said you had located the women.”
“I’ve found twenty which means either he lied to you or there are another five that we didn’t find that he videoed.”
“Where does that leave us?”
“It has no impact on us. It’s just that five women may miss out or it means that Tod lied to you.”
“Which do you think it is?”
“I don’t understand why Tod would lie but I’d bet he did because he would know by now that there are only twenty women involved in this class action. If he believed there were another five he would make damn sure they were involved otherwise they just might spring up one day and take him down again if you know what I mean.”
“I guess.”
“There is something else I should tell you as well.”
“What’s that?”
“That two hundred and fifty thousand is for each.”
“Holy shit!”

Always appreciate your efforts and reading your continuing inventive twists in the tale. I was eagerly scanning the latest for mentions of Brisbane, Red Hill or Chermside, but obviously all the details of Candy's future Australian itinerary aren't quite worked out yet.
A lot of problems getting new passports here in the UK so maybe problems in other countries too, hope she still gets to come to Europe some day, a lot of men will be disappointed if it's a no show.

Did we even learn what Michael and Candy told their parents about Teddy’s origin? I can’t imagine Michael’s family being too happy with her having someone else’s child. Or is Teddy staying with Tod’s parents?
