Multiple account attempts

Unread post by armyguyot1 » Mon Nov 06, 2023 5:24 am

New accounts are down. There seems to be a tendency to try to open mulitple accounts. Last night a guy had 7 different accounts. I don't approve mulitple accounts it opens the door for members to discuss thing with themselves. It seems to run in streaks and right now is bad. Out of 34 attempts this morning there were 3 approved that were done right and single. Saturday there were in the sixties and only 6 single.

I don't get it but keeping these people out is great for the integrity of the site.

This seems to run in spurts. Lately they have been mostly throw outs.

Honestly, I don't understand their motivation...

Seems like about 15 to 17 attempts from the same guy is getting to be pretty normal. I will have 60 applicants and maybe approve 5.

I assume spammers. There's surely a bot that can auto-sign-up for accounts. We messed around with some stuff like this in a research project about 3-4 years ago

I can't imagine why anyone would want 15 accounts to OHWs. I can see 2 or 3 identities so you can respond to your own posts and look special. We see that occassionally where members get their count up. They can discuss and bring out what they want.

15! Geez that's nuts 😳 someone actually took the time to set up 15 usernames? I wouldn't be able to remember 15 different usernames 😂

Multiple account people sure make it easy on me. This morning there was a attempt at 10 accounts. I noticed the time was 1 to 2 minutes from one to the other but sometimes 2 in a minute. Sometimes they use the same log in with varients like 1, 2, 3 with completely different emails, and sometimes they use different log ins totally but the same email. I just delete them all. Easy on me. I sometimes get say 65 new accounts and end up activating 4 or 5 of them. Keeps the workload down. Keep it up.
Nonmembers can read this thread. I sure wish they would.
