In case my posts in the 'signing in' thread went under everyone's radar:
OHW's server software has been getting some updates. The job is nearly finished, and everything should be up and running nicely now. There are still a few little fixups to do, but any additional downtime should be minimal.
Reply or PM me if you're experiencing any problems, and let us know if things seem to be better than before the updates!
It still takes a long time for uploading a reply.
But if you click Submit and then go one page back and reload the page, your post is uploaded.
It seems like it is the reload of the page after uploading that get stuck.

Thanks kaskap. There is still a high load of backend database access driven primarily by bots IMO, although they're mostly the sort that try to disguise themselves as regular browsers.
I'm going to do some more fine-tuning of the database situation, and hopefully find a creative way to weed out more of the bots.
I'm planning to take the site offline briefly in a few hours (morning UK time, hopefully when the bulk of the American users are sleeping) for some database checking and optimization.
Cheers hornedhubby! It's my pleasure. I want to help keep OHW healthy and prosperous for years to come.
I can see that some of the same issues persist, mostly (I believe) due to high workload. But the server's CPU usage is notably lower now, and I'll keep trying to tune things. The site seems a bit more snappy.
Thanks to armyguyot1 for trusting me, giving me the required access, and letting me help out.
