The search takes a lot of resources so we have it severely throddled back. Best time to try it is off hours when the site is not busy.

We're a free site without advertising or spam who relies on donations and volunteers to keep running.

I could recommend a site host where this issue wouldn't happen, but they don't allow this kind of content. That the flip side of this, adult content sites are more limited and more expensive.

I get this about 70% of the time anymore, regardless of time of day. Between this and the 502/504 issue, It's almost painful to try to post here any more.

Don't remember the last time I was able to use search at all. A shame really as the rest of this site is amazing. The people here are far and away the most insightful, sensible yet downright filthy on the web. No other HW related site comes close, it's such a shame.

I don't really intend to use the search function. I am just trying to click on new posts, to see what is current. It's very annoying and unsatisfying to have to Wade through the topics, to find out where people are currently posting comments. I don't care to read comments that are a year old. I want to engage in current discussions. It's frustrating that there isn't an easier way to go to new posts.

And recently, it seems like this site has just been locking down completely a lot.

When I wake up sometimes at 3AM, New York City time zone, search is a 50 50 shot, any other time no joy.

This is not a 100% solution but a tip that might help sometimes.

Use your favorite search engine with the following syntax:

site:our hotwives.org "xxx xxx" where "xxx xxx" represents what you're searching for.

It doesn't work all the time but it works some of the time.

It would help if we all posted our posts as "quote posts".
That way, the person's post being quoted, gets a notification that there has been some comment on their post.

Since this website doesn't provide enough bandwidth to be able to use the search function, or the New Posts page, we aren't able to come on here and find out what new activity has occurred since we were on last. We have to go on the main board index, and then search in each category, then go to each discussion thread, to see which ones might have some new activity or comments.

If everyone would quote post by touching on the quote mark on either the original comment, or the one they are responding to, at least the person having their comment quoted, will get a notification that there has been a comment on one of their posts.

It's a board setting that the admins control, which specifies the CPU load at which searching is allowed.

OHW is often loaded fairly heavily, especially lately with incognito AI scraper bots scouring the site relentlessly for things to plagiarise (it hit 96% the other day). Search does work during the most quiet times, but I think the limit is set fairly low -- possibly too low.

Admins: I can advise about this search setting if you want to try increasing it.

The site is funded by donations, so increasing the server spec is something that can be done, but obviously comes at a cost, and we don't want the admins to end up out-of-pocket. We've been having a discussion about things that can be done.

Blocking more bots is obviously a desirable solution, but it's not as technically straightforward as one might hope, when they're pretending to be normal users. I've been doing it by hand (whack-a-mole) and we're looking into the possibility of using third-party services. <-- also difficult, but for a reason that's kind of specific to this site.

Searching should generally be more available now, at least during less-busy periods (thanks to armyguyot1 for changing the settings).
