Hard time writing back to private messages

I’m sure I have missed the explanation, but I am having a hard time responding to private messages? Someone writes I emailed him once, he wrote back and now I can’t figure out how to respond? Am I too new? Do I have to interact with so many forums? Thanks for any help.

Am I too new?

Yes. New users are in moderated status and can't send PMs initially. That's usually up until you've made 5 posts without causing trouble, which you now have.
