Update, Just so you’ll know I’m still alive.

At least one is wondering where I’ve been the past few days. Tonight is my wife’s last of three nights out of town for the bank's purposes. I stayed late at the office each evening to get ahead on some work. I get more done when working alone. She was initially to be accompanied by a board member whose schedule conflicted. A branch manager who holds her former position went with her. Her boss phoned yesterday to tell me their trip has gone even better than anticipated. She plans to go into work tomorrow for a couple of hours and to the board chairwoman’s law office to bring the interested parties up to date. Knowing her male travel partner, I’m sure there was no sex during her trip. The coming weekend of the 21st is another matter.

She will be home to get some rest most of the day tomorrow. But on the 21st we’re accompanying her boss and his wife out of town to visit with their son and daughter at the junior military academy each attends. The kids have been asking their parents if “Aunt Gigi,” as they refer to her, could come with them sometime. We're a bit late in getting around to that. The kids will be home for the summer a week following that weekend. So the best I can offer today is to pass along a couple of Gigi’s jokes as told me on the phone by her boss.

When anyone at work is feeling down, she often responds with a joke to lighten things up. The day before she left, the bank threw a limited, after-hours party in the downstairs lobby for its 10-years-plus employees. A group was lamenting jobs lost in the pandemic and how rising prices are putting a strain on some customers and others. Gigi said, “ I know. I remember Bob Hope, Steve Jobs, and Johnny Cash. Now there’s no hope, no jobs, and no cash. . . I hope nothing happens to Kevin Bacon.”

When another said he hopes this Covid-19 pandemic isn’t long-term, she said, “Don’t expect it to last. It was made in China.”

Her boss added that he repeats some of her comebacks now and then. A birthday joke he has repeated was when he said to her his current age just means he is now another year closer to retirement. She retorted, “Aren’t we all?" and added, I thought growing old would take longer.”

If anything comes up this weekend, I’ll let you know but we haven’t made any plans (yet).

I no longer ask, Solstice, just laugh when I hear them. Many are undoubtedly hers, but she has a good memory for almost everything, and I'm sure half or more are from others. One of her retired golfing buddies she recently visited in the hospital has what seems an endless supply and I know many come from him only because she usually came home with some he had told her greens crew. I have never met him, but of those three men she met often at her former club, he and she were the principal joke tellers. Each enjoys entertaining others. I had heard at least one from her that I recently passed along here and know it originated with that man.

The four plan to get together soon after the man's recovery. I have been tempted to show up and follow them around to hear some of that. Her best are longer than one-liners, so I haven't included those in these pages. Other jokes I don't mention are the sort that upset the ultra-Woke people as you can determine from occasional comments here. Gigi puts up with all sorts of folks but doesn't go out of her way to socialize with men or women who suck the fun out of everything. I once mentioned in these pages one of those with who she had sex before she recognized his contrary outlook on life; he also managed to get in a rash of criticisms for her carrying a legally concealed firearm. That ended rather quickly.

Here’s the most recent. Because it takes a while to get to her punch lines, this is why I don’t include her longer jokes in these pages.

Last night, her boss intended to drive to our home for the night and I was to drive over to his and Mary’s place. They changed their minds and instead invited the two of us to their home overnight. What we call ‘The South’ runs from Kentucky and South Carolina down through Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and Georgia. We folks don’t count Florida as the South. So many Snow Birds have moved there and to bigger cities like Atlanta, ever’ thang has changed in those places. And when we talk about The Wa-uh (‘War’), it ain’t WWII.”

He had chuckled at that. but she then said, “Even tellin’ fairytales is differ’nt where I'm from. A nawth’un (‘northern’) fairytale begins, ‘Once upon a time’ …

In reading your comments on her accent or lack thereof, does she/you ever revert to her southern dialect when she has had a couple or few alcoholic drinks?? My dad was from the Mid-Atlantic with no southern drawl at all. But he was assigned to a B-17 crew during WWII in the south Pacific and all of the rest of the crew were from Georgia and Mississippi. They were together for almost 5 years. When he got home, he was so dark tanned and spoke with a southern drawl just like his crew mates that almost no one recognized him. Over the years he lost his southern drawl except when he was drinking!! Then it returned with no effort on his part and he was the joke teller in most of the groups he was with and that was usually with some drinks in hand. So I see some similarities here!

On another note from your previous update, I'm sure Gigi has corrected you on this point but just in case she hasn't.... You mentioned about her asking her golfing buddies to schedule a golf date with the newly released player from the hospital at around 4:30PM on Tuesday or Thursday for 9 rounds. For you my non-golfing friend, a round of golf is usually considered 18 holes of golf unless otherwise specified for another number of holes to be played. A full round of golf usually takes somewhere in the 4 hour time frame. Although I was not there for her comment, I'm pretty sure she said that she wanted to play a round of 9 holes with her buddies that would end around 6:30PM. It's a minor issue but I thought you should know!

Hey! I never said I know golf. And about that other part, she never drinks more than one serving of any alcoholic beverage that could result in her losing her faculties and even that isn't often. In all my time I've known her, an excess of a couple different beverages happened only once at age 27 with the first guy who ever nailed her since we first married. We were then renting an apartment before finally buying our house and that incident all came about with a bet she lost through over-confidence.

I'm pretty darned sure she doesn't and won't ever think of you as stupid!!! Maybe a bit naive about some things such as golf, but that is what makes things interesting during a lifetime. She and I are quite similar in our constant pursuit of learning of many topics and that keeps our lives interesting along with the various people we meet along the way. I'm sorry if I opened a door you didn't need opened but I couldn't resist the temptation of teasing you just a little bit!!! Maybe you should find something that interests you and pursue that interest. Become pretty proficient in that interest and remind her frequently of your mastery of that interest. edit addition: Since you are in the Mid-West, I just had a conversation with a guy this weekend that was telling me that BBQ competitions are pretty popular in your area. Maybe you could become a certified BBQ judge!! Those competitions take place on Saturdays from about 10:00 to about 2:00 and could be a lot of fun. I've never heard of a civil war golfer!! Could you explain the 61 and 65??? I can't seem to match it up with a 9 hole round or even a full 18 holes. I was a scratch golfer... A pineapple has no ingredients to affect one's libido or sexual desire. Actually, the symbol of an upside-down pineapple in a grocery cart is a sign the person is into an alternative lifestyle, so it isn't necessarily just a hotwife couples' symbol. Clothing and jewelry with the symbol is easily found online. Some swingers place an upside-down pineapple, or picture of one, on their front porches to signal there's a swingers party going on inside.
