Friend of ours is visiting for the weekend from out of state. Dale. He’s the widower of a very very good friend of Sophia. We lost that friend to cancer about five years ago. A tragedy. Kids the same ages as ours. Through Sophia we all became friends long ago and they were our best “couple friends”. Through their friendship, I became friends with Dale. Real friends, too. Good man.
Dale is huge. 6’5”, mid 50s, I’ll guess 240 pounds. He’s losing his hair and opts to shave it all although the grey shows on the sides. He was a very good athlete-played collegiate volleyball-but he’s older and he’s put on weight, especially since losing his wife, but I don’t think anyone would describe him as fat. Nice smile. We all first became friends when we were still dating our wives many years ago, before kids etc. We’ve really gone through adulthood together.
Kids gone for the night and just the three of us drinking wine after dessert. Having fun. Lots of reminiscing and catching up and talking politics and other bullshit. He’s funny. Nothing sexual, no flirting that I was aware of, although Sophia looked nice in a skirt and a red sleeveless sweater with a nice v neck.
I eventually asked him if he was getting back out there? Dating anyone? He said No. He didn’t think he could or ever would and that he was fine with that. I was surprised because I remember him in his twenties and he was popular with women, even though he was loyal to his girlfriend. He and I would enjoy checking out women at bars and beaches etc over the years.
And for the record, I was only asking him as a friend. The two of them together NEVER occurred to me.
He said that it's been decades since he’s been with a woman other than his wife and he didn’t have a lot of experience before his wife. He just didn’t think he could do it. He didn’t care. He’s made friends and he’s filling his time between work and hobbies.
That’s when Sophia asked, “Is it the intimacy that you’re worried about?”
“Yeah…” he said sheepishly, red-faced.
“That’s cute, you’re like a frightened teenager again,” she said. At that moment, there was something about how she looked at him. Like a spider wanting prey. I felt like I was hit on the head with a huge hammer out of no where. Holy shit, I suddenly realized, she’s thinking about fucking him…
I asked if he’s even tried. Dating apps etc? He said that some of his buddies got him to put a profile up but he doesn’t check it and doesn’t see himself as meeting anyone that way.
I was then surprised to hear Sophia tell him that we created a profile for her. Just for fun. He looked a little surprised. That’s when Sophia moved from sitting next to me on the couch to next to him on the couch where he was. She had her phone and told him to open the app. They both did it and both put on the settings for nearby and their targeted age range and they started scrolling. Sure enough, they got each other and laughed and matched each other.
Sophia then looked up at him in the eyes and asked what he wanted to do on their first date. He then looked over at me and asked what’s going on.
I shrugged, trying to act calm even though I was glued to every movement of her body. I saw exactly where her body was touching him as she sat there. Her legs were curled up on the couch and her bare knees were pressed into his thigh. Her chest was moving back and forth, touching the side of his arm. She was looking directly up at him, staring unabashedly. I calmly said that we had been experimenting and if Sophia was interested, I would be fine.
“I don’t know. I don’t think so. We’re friends…” he said.
“Hmmm…maybe just a kiss? To see how it feels? I’m curious too and you’re someone we can trust,” she purred.
He just nodded and looked down at her.
She leaned up and there was a small kiss. Then again. Then deeper. Mouths open a little. Then he abruptly pulled back.
“I’m sorry. You’re so hot. I’ve always thought so. But…” he looked over at me. “I can’t perform for Karl. I’m not some swinger. I’m too nervous to have an audience. Hope you guys understand.”
I quickly replied. “Dale, I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to stare. I don’t have to watch. At all. For me, this is about Sophia’s enjoyment. You guys can take things back to your room and just see what happens. Nothing has to happen at all,” I said.
As I spoke, I was trying so hard to sound relaxed but I felt like I was shaking. I’m sure I was. It was surreal.
Sophia nodded and took his hand and stood. He stood up next and they walked away holding hands. She whispered to him and he nodded and walked on alone and she came back to me and stood up close and I wrapped my arms around her.
“You sure you want this right?” she said looking up at me in the eyes.
“Yeah, of course, I want you to enjoy it. I’ll be very happy if you do.”
“I feel like he needs some help and I’ve always been attracted to him. I feel comfortable with him.”
“That’s great then.”
“OK, I don’t know how long it will be or what will happen.”
“No need to rush anything.”
“This is crazy. I’m glad he said that about you not watching, I think this will be better. Hope you’re OK with that?”
“Yeah, it's not about me anyway.”
“I don’t think you should even go upstairs. No sneaking around. He might freak out if he thinks you’re spying.”
“Of course, I wouldn’t do that.”
“OK then.”
“OK.”
“I love you.”
“I love you, too.”
And then she turned and went to our bedroom and then a few minutes later, I heard her walk over to his room.
Then I cleaned up the wine glasses and dessert plates. I messaged you all. I waited anxiously on the couch and then, to my surprise, I fell asleep.
