When I asked why that was so, she said it had to do with my non-judgmental attitude about things she tells me privately about her extramarital sex life. Outwardly at work, she says she and others consider me a “straight arrow” who would never stray as many married men do. And it was true for two offices where she previously worked as a personal assistant with secretarial duties. Sam (the short version of her name to which she is referred at the office), as a child, was abandoned by her mother for unknown reasons soon after birth and raised in two separate foster homes until she was 18 and moved out on her own as an independent woman.

When we toured the company’s plant on our second stop during my assignment, she was guided by another man to tour and write up notes for a separate area from where I and another went through. During that time, the guy guiding her made some comments implying he would like to have dinner and sex with her after hours if she was free. She dropped some subtle comments as they walked through the area that implied she might be available upon a future visit, but I wasn’t just her boss but essentially also her chaperone during this visit. The supervisor she was then with was later very enthusiastic about using our advertising agency as their permanent agency, not just a half-year trial. The company execs signed on as a two-year client with the option to continue. I considered that an effective sales job on her part, particularly since sex wasn’t any implicit promise as some sort of award.

It later occurred to me, that if she gets promoted to a position in which she isn’t working under my authority within our firm that some future sexual relationship between her and me would not be a problem. In many newsrooms, entertainment firms, advertising agencies, law offices, and other corporations, sex between employees of equal standing isn’t uncommon or a threat to their jobs. I have seen that in many places in my time and know from gossip of many others where it’s acceptable and ignored. That wasn’t my reason for recommending her to be later promoted to that of associate writer and potentially a future partnership but couldn’t help considering the unlikely possibility. For now and under current conditions, that sort of relationship is a very bad idea and I have no intention of confessing that to Samantha.

The only vaguely sexual event that occurred on the trip was that I had a sore shoulder returning from the hotel pool but didn’t know the reason. I hadn’t recalled anything to cause an injury. I mentioned it to her as we were returning to our rooms. That evening, I was coming out of the shower with a towel wrapped around my waist and Sam walked through the door of her adjoining room to give me her earlier notes taken during interviews.

She talked casually as if I were dressed and offered to massage my shoulder. I wasn’t comfortable with it under the circumstances but sat on my room’s couch and she stood behind me rubbing my shoulder. We talked mostly about our day’s work as she massaged me, but the touch of her hands on my flesh gave me a boner. I’m sure she noticed the protrusion of the towel at my waist but made no mention of it. After several minutes, I told her I felt much better and would meet up with her for breakfast at seven the next morning at the hotel’s downstairs restaurant.

She returned to our room, and no mention was thereafter made about the incident. But something else was different between us after those few minutes together; as open as she has been with me in the past about personal matters, our conversations after that have been more relaxed as if we had been friends for years. It’s still a boss-employee relationship but seemingly tighter and friendlier.

Over the past several months, they have talked frequently by phone and Gigi has had luncheons with one or both at times; and I was with them on one of those occasions. She visited their home twice in the last few months, which ended in three-way sex for one or two hours. They're still friends and both have again invited us out on their boat but conflicts have come up. We plan to do that again, perhaps before the end of the year but it will be in cooler weather if and when that comes up. They aren't "history" to us, and we both like them a lot.

They invited Beau and Sherry over (Tuesday evening as it turned out) because they're "new" and had only been with the two of them once; they get along well as friends also. Beau and my wife have had been with them as a foursome and Gigi was once with them and Liz's then-boyfriend; I think I wrote in these pages about the latter.

I can understand you questioning that. I don't write here about some of my wife's encounters that I think might be boring; at those times, the sexual activity most often comes across like a repetition of past events among the same people. I guess you could say that's more like the way it is with swinging couples who share their spouses. I suspect much of what I include in my contributions here is of limited or no interest to at least some as it is; I have a tendency to add more here and in emails than is necessary, but that comes from professional habit and custom when I'm casually writing.

I noticed when I logged in we had 435,425 hits on our thread; I find it amazing that many readers really care about the sex lives of two ordinary people like us. But those who do follow us and respond make it worthwhile continuing and I enjoy hearing from all. (And I'm one of the fastest typists among any I have known, so that's perhaps another reason for the unintended length of all these narratives; to me, typing is like talking - it just keeps on going.)
