I think all three parties know at some level of perception (maybe not fully consciously yet) a great deal more about what's going on than they are ready to admit to one another or try to adjust.

That's because they all have deep and complex pre-existing relationships with one another and at the same time have limited fragmentary individual perspectives on the whole situation. They all know something big is going on, they all know it has to do with sexual relations between Jen and Dad, and they all know it has changed things and will change things a lot more in time to come.

The abilities of all three to communicate, understand, and establish a basis for going forward in the best way possible is about to be tested.

It is hardly to be wondered at that they would feel a mixture of tension, excitement and anxiety: their deeply entwined roles, rules and relations are about to be rather comprehensively revised.

I wish them well, of course. I personally have heard of many different kinds of unconventional family constellations that work out pretty well, as well as many, many conventional ones that are disastrous for each and every person involved.
