Back to the story:

The last two or three days of the cruise were mostly Lynda and I hanging out with Bekka. We ended up learning that Bekka had enjoyed numerous affairs over the years, not just the current one. She claimed to be on affair number nine with the sixth different friend and neighbor. Apparently, her husband was not into cuckolding and could not take the humiliation any longer. The last days of the cruise were uneventful as far as Carlos and Lynda were concerned. They had a brief tryst every day and we kept Bekka fully informed, but kept it quiet around the others. Something about the whole experience made Carlos start to re-think things. I think he realized that he was rushing toward divorce with no replacement lined up, since he was not even fantasizing about taking Lynda away from me.
He is the type of guy who has to have a girlfriend/wife/partner 100% of the time, so when we got back home, he set out to give his marriage one last chance. As a result, he and Lynda did not hook up for a month, although he stayed in touch with both of us. When Carlos and his wife had gotten married, they had lived on a boat in the islands for a month as there honeymoon. That was late May through late June and that time was coming up, so they decided to do that again on their own boat. Lynda was happy for Carlos and his wife/her friend and we wished him well. We made a plan that we would join them for week three on the boat.

Meanwhile, Lynda and Bekka talked on the phone daily and giggled like lovers. They were getting so close, making up for years of being sisters without much in common. Bekka did get divorced and her ex said many of the same nasty things about her and us that some have said here. I understand this totally because it is the normal reaction. Back to the story:

In early May we heard from Carlos that he and his wife were taking their boat on an extended trip to the islands for most of the summer. They had done that for their honeymoon many years ago and were apparently trying to recapture the magic. They were leaving late May and planned to stay at least through the 4th of July, if not longer. They were inviting various friends to join them for a week or so and invited us to come in early June. Our plan was to fly over to one of the islands on a Friday and they would pick us up. We would stay until the Sunday a weeks later and they would deliver us back to the little airport, so our stay would be about ten days.

Lynda and Carlos did not hook up at all for the rest of April after getting home from the cruise or at any time during the month of May. As we prepared to leave for the islands in early June, Lynda pondered how it would be between her and Carlos. She wondered if he was really going to stay committed to his wife, or if they might be able to sneak away for some private time together. I warned her that there would be no misunderstanding about who Carlos had been seeing if she let on in any way. There were good times, but you could tell that his wife was not happy deep down and that he was not inclined to try to hard to do much about that. From an outside point of view, you could tell that "the thrill is gone."
